Remembering the past, looking forward to the future

November 17, 2017

Newport Squash Rackets Club have honoured past member and club stalwart Tony Baines by naming court two after him “Tony Baines Court“.

Tony was the heart and soul of the club for decades, playing, captaining teams, club handyman, vice chairman and general legend of Newport Squash Club.  At the recent Coors Newport Senior Open, following the Final matches, a naming ceremony took place with members of Tony’s family and committee members of the club.

With regards to the Coors Newport Open, the ladies’ final was won by world number 14 Tesni Evans - a fitting prelude to the court opening ceremony.  Emyr Evans won the men's event making it a family double for Emyr & Tesni Evans . Over 80 competitors took part in the Newport Senior Open from all parts of the UK.

Whilst celebrating the tremendous legacy of Tony, the club is also looking to the future. The Club aims to offer squash to the communities of Newport for years to come Both adults and juniors are welcome at the club, which is  run by the members for the benefit of all as a non profit community club.

The club has recently undergone extensive refurbishment which has now been fully completed.

Newport Squash Club is offering free taster sessions for both juniors and adults to try squash for free.
