The club was founded in 1968 by a group of local businessmen at Raglan Barracks Newport. It was not long before it was realised that this one court facility was not ideal. They then set about looking for an alternative site to expand.

Then Newport Athletic Club was approached and an agreement was made to lease ground to build two brand new courts. Within two years due to demand a further agreement was reached to lease more ground, and two further courts were added bringing the total to the four courts the club has today.
